To experience history; to see research in action; to discover ideas
that will shape the future – for our birthday program we open our doors
and invite you cordially to celebrate with us, to contribute to our
discussions of our future. Come and get to know the heights and depths
in the history of the oldest university in Berlin. Join us on our
journey to the exciting worlds of science and scholarship and help us
identify and specify the most promising areas of research in the years
to come.
As a reform university in1810 the Humboldt-Universität soon became the
incredibly successful embodiment of the lived unity of research and
teaching. But our bicentenary is not only a good moment to look back.
For us 200 years of our alma mater’s life-time are also a continuous
reminder of the need to think ahead. We are an institution for which
progress and change are a matter of course. This is why we are today
the ‘Modern Original’.
From October 12th, 2009, on we extend our welcome to you to come to our
more than 100 events which are as diverse as the university itself.
Different disciplines have prepared fascinating exhibitions,
international conferences, concerts and more. Philosophers as well as
historians, art specialists and economists, physicists and musicians –
they all and many more will be part of it.
The events are arranged around six key projects which all have to do
with principles on which the university was founded or which it has
developed from its own turbulent history. These principles will be
discussed from different angles and in the context of the 21st century.

„Eröffnung des Jacob-und-Wilhelm-Grimm-Zentrums“

Wissen für alle: Mit dem Grimm-Zentrums öffnet die Humboldt-Universität
die größte Freihandbibliothek im deutschsprachigen Raum. Sie ist für
alle Berliner zugänglich und schließt erst um Mitternacht.

statt.

zahlreiche Objekte von Rektoren, Studierenden und Lehrenden.
