Education: "Grand Opening of the new University Library, the Jacob-und-Wilhelm-Grimm-Zentrum"
The Jacob-und-Wilhelm-Grimm-Zentrum of the Humboldt-Universität is a prize-winning building and is a state-of-the-art information and communication centre for those disciplines that are located in the Campus Mitte. It is jointly operated by the University Library and the Computer and Media Services.
With opening hours until midnight the Centre offers excellent working condition. Its extensive research literature as well as its unique historical collections can be studied in our new building with its well over a thousand work places. It holds, for instance, a large collection of leaflets from the 1848 revolution, the archive of the literary society ‘Tunnel über der Spree’ and the Grimm brothers’ private library, to mention only a few.

By amalgamating holdings of the central university library with those of twelve departmental and sectional libraries one of the largest open access library in Germany has been created. One of the most lively areas in its 22.000 square meters of floor space the Jacob-und-Wilhelm-Grimm-Zentrum offers, will undoubtedly be the “Berliner Volksbank Kinderstube”, a room in which parents can study with their children. There, we are very much looking forward to welcome our youngest library users. This is only one of the many special features with which the Zentrum serves the needs of its users.

1.250 work places in different arrangements set the tone of this magnificent building. Video conference rooms, multimedia work spaces and PC-Pools are available alongside reading terraces and separated study places with a magnificent view over part of the city.

If you prefer to work in a group or need a quiet place to study where you can concentrate on your work without disturbance, our group work rooms or our work cabins offer ideal conditions. In a separate area our historical holdings and rara- collections will be accessible to all readers.
Together with the Erwin-Schrödinger-Zentrum at the Adlershof Campus the Jacob-und-Wilhelm-Grimm-Zentrum fulfills all the information and communication requirements of a modern university.
