Humboldt on the move
Humboldt on the move
Academia: Humboldt hits the
streets
In the early summer of 2010 the
Humboldt-Universität will hit the streets of the city. With public
lectures and seminars, experiments with commentaries and discussion
groups, it would like to invite the citizens of Berlin as well as
guests in the city to get to know the reasearch and teaching of the
univeristy and even take part in it.
In historical terms, the
Humboldt-Universität is intricately linked to Berlin. Therefore the
university would like to use the occasion of its anniversary to show
the importance of its location, the city of Berlin.
With HUMBOLDT HITS THE STREETS the Humboldt-Universität continues its long tradition of public lectures, which were already incredibly popular in the 19th century und still continue today. In the 21st century the University is going one step further, leaving the ivory tower and making its way to public places in Berlin.
The specific locations will include both busy central places as well as residential areas, which make the centre into a lively area.
Topics
What effect does research and teaching at the Humboldt-Universität have on life in Berlin and how does the city in turn inspire academia?
We have designed our general programme with this central question in mind, in which leading figures out of every subject area at the Humboldt-Universität will be involved. In cooperation with local institutions, some of which will serve as venues, we will contribute to an exchange of day-long events with academia and society.
With the activities of HUMBOLDT HITS THE STREETS, we would like to show that academia and everyday life go hand in hand. It should be made clear to non-academics what research and teaching at the Humboldt-Universität entails and what role the university plays in the city.
